Fill this form to have the opportunity to join the New Generations platform: submissions will be reviewed on a daily-basis, and the most innovative practices will have the chance to be part of the media's coverage and participate in our cultural agenda, including events, research projects, workshops, exhibitions and publications.
New Generations is a European platform that investigates the changes in the architectural profession ever since the economic crisis of 2008. We analyse the most innovative emerging practices at the European level, providing a new space for the exchange of knowledge and confrontation, theory, and production.
Since 2013, we have involved more than 300 practices from more than 20 European countries in our cultural agenda, such as festivals, exhibitions, open calls, video-interviews, workshops, and experimental formats. We aim to offer a unique space where emerging architects could meet, exchange ideas, get inspired, and collaborate.

Rotterdam Loft embodies a collection of light and open spaces achieved through a series of radical yet thoughtful interventions. These spaces are dynamically interconnected to accommodate the family life of the clients. Original elements of the townhouse have been preserved and complemented with contemporary materials and forms.
The essence of this project lies in upgrading the existing structure to enhance its future value. The townhouse comprises two attached dwellings, divided into a ground floor and basement.
The entrance staircase originally led upward, with a cramped basement space below. The initial intervention was to reverse the stair's direction, leading downward instead. This adjustment immediately establishes a connection with the garden upon entry and descent.
The second intervention aimed to convert all spaces into fully functional living areas. This involved renovating the ground floor, locally raising the upper floor, and strategically opening up load-bearing walls.
As a final intervention, a void was created at the rear with extensive glass to allow ample light and air deep into the loft. During the renovation, materials were selectively removed and repurposed within the interior wherever possible.
The main living spaces have been relocated from the first floor to the basement to establish a direct connection with the beautiful garden. To enhance natural daylighting in the basement area, the rear facade's balcony was removed and replaced with a 5-meter-high meranti frame void. This creates a spacious vertical open space that connects both floors visually and physically, complemented by an open staircase made of Radiplex.
The interior features contrasts, such as an intimate staircase lined with soft blue felt positioned alongside an open staircase. These staircases, along with blue niches on both floors, guide towards the more private areas, including the bedrooms and bathroom.
To provide structure to the open spaces, industrial steel frames were repurposed and complemented with custom-made wooden portals. These transparent dividers define the space without compromising its openness.
