Casa Umbral
Arquid

Casa Umbral is a residential project for a single-family house situated in the northeastern district of Madrid.

The aim was to craft a home providing tranquility and serene spaces, effectively shielding occupants from external noise and street disturbances. Through design and technology, the project establishes clear boundaries and connections between exterior and interior spaces.

The innovative approach centers on four key volumes: one enclosed structure facing the street, and three open structures overlooking the backyard.

The exterior volumetric partition influences the interior layout by integrating with built-in furniture, effectively dividing and connecting the primary living spaces. This configuration creates intimate and secluded areas within the building, enabling occupants to feel comfortable and unrestricted at home while maintaining privacy from the public streets.

The facade features a crisscross design technology that creates fascinating visual effects, captivating shadow play, and diffuses soft light.

This innovative structure provides optimal privacy while maintaining a connection to the outdoors. Earthy furniture colors and natural materials achieve a balanced blend of contemporary aesthetics and nature, meeting functional objectives.

The living room, centrally located within the house, serves as the main gathering and living space. Materials such as ceramic, wood, concrete, and brick define the area, offering warmth.

Combined with light color schemes and traditional finishes, these elements create an inviting and cozy ambiance, perfect for a family home.

The structural layout is tailored to fit the family's lifestyle and daily routines, with the ground floor designated exclusively for communal spaces for easier access. Bedrooms are strategically placed on the upper level to enhance privacy

Vertically aligned corridors ensure continuous flow of natural daylight and shadows from the facade throughout the building. Positioned consistently on one side across all levels, they connect different facilities efficiently while optimizing space use.

Brick lattice serves as an exterior layer, buffering and reducing external noise levels. This technology in the facade acts as a sustainable strategy for passive lighting, leading to energy cost savings.

Additionally, the facade's design incorporates innovative strategies to promote vegetation growth and expansion in patios and terraces.

These interventions encourage eco-conscious practices, improve indoor ambiance, and contribute to maintaining a high-quality environment within the building.
