Jacó is a new fine dining and cocktail restaurant project housed within a traditional residential building.

The structure, dating back to the 1970s, has undergone several alterations, with the latest, most significant one in the early 2020s involving the removal of all existing partition and load-bearing walls.

Five oversized and irregularly spaced metal beams were installed to bear the weight of the wooden roof trusses, effectively creating a spacious room measuring approximately 120 square meters.

The new L-shaped folded metal wall redefines the perimeter of the lot, dividing it into two distinct parts.

The first extends the existing room into a garden and semi-covered veranda, while the second creates a new open space for the city, resembling a small entry plaza.

The veranda and its garden offer an intermediate space, both as a bar and a restaurant. The wall, constructed using steel studs and galvanized steel panels functions as doors, windows, or simply partitions.

While the metal wall divides, the dark flooring unifies the entire area, forming a base that emphasizes the restaurant space in relation to the city.

From an internal plan perspective, the project unfolds in three strips. The first is a technical zone covered in dark Valchromat panels.

Functioning as doors and storage units within the house, the first strip houses all the hydraulic infrastructure and equipment essential for the restaurant, including the bar, kitchen, washing area, refrigeration, storage, and public restrooms. 

The second strip merge the service areas of the dining room and the winter garden. The third one comprises the outdoor area that connects the restaurant with the sidewalk.

The misalignment between the metal wall and the existing openings serves to delineate the design from the original structure.

Three distinct openings facilitate movement and variation: the main entrance door, two gates opening to the dining room window, and a French door providing autonomous access for the bar, which operates late into the night even after kitchen service ends.
