Studio Tropicana

The entrance is designed as a large window that allows a glimpse of the interior space. The display window, originally the garage entrance, is a visual link that allows passersby to take a first glance inside.

Upon entering the ground-floor studio, visitors are greeted by a bright, white interior that evokes a sense of openness and clarity. A striking feature is the staircase, positioned beneath a large window measuring approximately 4 metres, seamlessly integrated into the original barn structure. This thoughtful placement allows natural light to pour in from the upper floor, bathing the studio in warm, evenly distributed illumination.

To boost the light, both staircases in the studio are constructed of metal painted white. This intentional choice serves both an aesthetic and functional purpose. The reflective properties of the metal of the entrance staircase and the permeabilities of the perforated sheet metal work together to create an eye-catching play of light.

As natural light interacts with the surfaces, it bounces and cascades downward, effectively illuminating both the ground and second floor of the studio. This meticulous attention to light design promotes a harmonious play of light between the upper and lower floors, amplifying the space generously.

Although the studio is a one-room space, it was possible to create two distinct areas. The mezzanine in the center, intended as a study and research space, divides the room symmetrically. In this photo, the focus is on the side of the kitchen lit by a full-height window that follows the same geometric principles as the main window, built on the north side.

On the other side of the kitchen, the large round window catches the eye even from inside. Designed with the precise proportions of a chaise lounge, this window offers a wide panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. The perfect fusion of functionality and design exemplifies the harmonious approach taken throughout the project, where practical elements are meticulously considered. A perfect synergy between interior and exterior is ensured by the careful design.

As you enter from the side street, your attention is immediately drawn to the large window that floods the entire room with natural light. The large window on the north side not only lights up the interior, but also offers a striking view of the inside of the house. Designed according to the rules of Le Corbusier, it respects the proportions and the mathematics of the Modulor.

Overlooking the fields of Varese, the most outstanding feature is the large circular window, which stands out clearly from its surroundings. Resembling a large “oblo”, this window measures approximately 2m in diameter and is the signature feature of the Studio. Its generous size and pure form create a focal point in the urban space of the courtyard.
