New Urban Challenges
New Generations Festival
Streamed online from the Royal Spanish Academy in Rome

New Urban Challenges” is the upcoming edition of the New Generations Festival that is set to take place this December 16th–18th.

The Festival is curated by Gianpiero Venturini on behalf of the New Generations Cultural Association – with the support of the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome. The project has been awarded by the public tender "Estate Romana 2020 – 2021 – 2022" and is part of Romarama, a cultural programme promoted by Roma Capitale.

For the very first time, all the activities of the Festival will be streamed online live from the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome, Italy.

The festival will take place in two segments:
Online public events with a number of activities including the participation of international guests, this 16, 17, 18 December.
A travelling exhibition that inaugurates in March 2021 at the Royal Spanish Academy in Rome.

The festival revolves around the following two topics.

(City and) People: an ever-increasing number of people living in urban environments has forced architects, politicians, activists, and other related disciplines to develop and propose new ideas, theories, and guidelines in order to find feasible solutions to the complex problems posed by cities. The festival will explore collective projects, housing, new forms of cohabitation, reuse of abandoned or neglected buildings or areas, participatory actions where active citizens, architects, and other experts work together in order to modify the spaces we inhabit.

(City and) Responsibility: responsibility is a transversal theme, a key topic central to the recent EU policies and tenders, as well as for cultural foundations and public institutions. Responsibility is also frequently addressed by architects in order to propose ideas to improve the quality of the urban environment. How do we contribute while being responsible towards our living environments, exploring new ways to live in harmony with nature, or designing more inclusive and livable cities?
